Witches And The Salem Witch Trials - 1309 Words

Back then, there was a period called the dark ages this what when men and women hunted for witches known as the Salem Witch trials. This time will be forever remembered for the people in the town and the victims and family members of the horrifying time. European descents brought with many of them was the belief in witches and the devil. These beliefs that they believed in so much were from the teaching of the catholic church. During the seventeenth century, people were executed for being believed they were witches and followers of Satan. Most of these executions were performed in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The Salem Witch Trials began in February of 1692 and ended in May of 1693 (Documentary). This all started wit h a group of young girls in January of 1692. These girls felt ill after playing games, soon later they were known as the afflicted girls because the doctor didn’t know what was wrong with them so he accused them of being bewitched. (Brooks 3) The hunt for witches started because the people of this village feared the devil, and witches who worked for him (Brooks 1). The hunt for witches was so outrageous that it moved to 8 neighboring town (Brooks 7). Captain John Alden Jr. the son of a Mayflower crew member was accused of witchcraft and sent to jail, but escaped and went to New York to live (Brooks 9). In June the arrests of witches declined, but the local jails still held more than 200 witches (Brooks 7). Before all the salem trials started they invited Samuel Parris to be their minister (Linder 1). Samuel brought his wife Elizabeth, his six-year-old daughter Betty, Niece Abagail Williams, And his Native American slave Tituba. When Parris moved their two clans (the Putnams and the Porters) were fighting over the control of the town.(Linder 1) Betty Parris was ill with a disease called â€Å"convulsive

Cultural Appropriation, By The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge

Anyone who knows me, knows me knows that I love to watch reruns of â€Å"What not to wear† on TLC, As it teaches me something I clearly know nothing about, fashion. However anyone who is in my Spanish class known that I not only care about my culture but others as well. This school year has been interesting both fashion-wise and politically, from the Kylie Jenner Lip challenge, to Donald Trump running for president. It has been such a weird school year however, that it has pointed out a sad fact about the current fashion world, that is prevalent through the politics we discuss in our everyday lives, and that is cultural appropriation. As cultural appropriation according to the Oxford Dictionary is â€Å"A term used to describe the taking over of creative or artistic forms, themes, or practices by one cultural group from another. It is in general used to describe Western appropriations of non†Western or non†white forms, and carries connotations of exploitation and dominance.† And despite how much we would like to believe that this issue doesn’t exist in our present day society, if one looks In clothing stores, fashion magazines, and even Halloween parties, cultural theft is occurring. Art And Photography Essay Photography has affected our lives greatly. It recorded the scenes in history that have touched us all. Priceless memories were saved thanks to photography, this art of light. Photography is the science of capturing light onto a piece, which we find captivating, amusing, or thought provoking. It has helped us capture memories for over a century now. It can also get to be a very complex subject because before you understand photography you must understand light. Without light, photography wouldnt exist. To understand why light is important to a photograph, you must understand how an image is captured onto film. The film placed in the camera is photosensitive material, which means a material sensible to light. Film is basically material that reacts in a way that when light rays hit it, an image forms. Light comes in a variety of forms. A) Sunlight is natural light that comes from the sun and cannot be created by people. It can be manipulated through the time of day, affecting that quality of a photo. B) Overcast skylight is related to sunlight, but it is different in many ways. It doesnt create harsh shadows because the clouds are blocking the sun, giving a dramatic look to photographs. And finally, C) artificial light is the toughest type, because unless you have incredibly bright searchlights, a reasonably fast lens, and a tripod, you might get a good exposure. Photography starts with an inspiration, and its quality is determined through the final product. The process of photography is to be taken seriously, from beginning to end.
